Posted Mar 24, 2013 (Patch 5.2.0)When Wrath of the Lich King was released, this 1-H mace was considered the best healing weapon obtainable outside of raiding because of its intellect and mp5. Depending on the raid loot RNG, some ended up holding onto this until patch 3.2 - when a new 5-player dungeon was added. (Sidenote: The stats on this were changed following the design changes for Cataclysm.)
The "unrequited love" is in reference to Keristrasza having been ensorcelled by Malygos as revenge for killing his prior consort, Saragosa. See also: Saragosa's End.
